RESEARCH - ANALYSIS - DESIGN

THE PROBLEM STATEMENT

Nakumatt is a Kenyan supermarket with 65 stores in the African countries. Its owner Mr Atul wanted to create a strong customer base by providing offer benefits, rewards and loyalty points to returning customers.
Our solution was to create a simplified customer portal where the clients can open a loyalty account, to access their personalized Nakumatt points, to check their account details, financial transaction history and cash balance.
Challenge was it was to analyse, research and design the portal from offshore. Because of the project budget, it was not possible for us to carry out any onsite activity.

TARGET GROUP

Nakumatt loyalty customers.

MY APPROACH

Competitive Analysis
Since we were working from offshore it actually took us time for understanding of the requirements. Apart from the given requirement, Nakumatt was actually looking to design a platform to introduce new offers, redemption schemes and product launches.
We wanted to find out competitive companies in the African market for Nakumatt.
With daily calls with our client, and the research as part of our own process, we got to a conclusion that as such no super markets had their portals or any loyalty programme for their customers, however the client was looking to have something similar to TESCO, like the below loyalty programmes.
Information architecture and navigation
We had the requirements with us and the client was keen to see something visually.
But I had to work from the users perspective before creating anything. It was very important to me to show the navigation points at right position based on its importance and urgency and to use the terms which would make sense to the actual users.
For doing so, I worked on the importance and priority mapping and created an IA (basically a type of sitemap) to start with context and user specific division, organising and serving appropriate content.
This was discussed in daily calls and we had quiet a number of enhancement from the actual understanding.
Priority & Importance Mapping
Information Architecture
Low-Fidelity Wireframes
We had the IA ready with us, with the refined naming conventions and navigations based on its importance and priorities.
I started creating initial wireframes with low fidelity paper prototypes followed by high fidelity wireframes based on the sections and navigation points.
Visual designs
I suggested user testing on the wireframes before proceeding to the actual Visual Designs but the project was facing timeline issues and the client wanted to complete according to its estimates.
However, I did a heuristic evaluation internally with my design team, it helped me and same was communicated with the client, the client however felt, some of it logical and we made the final updates in Visual designs.
Mobile App designs
I would like to highlight that, since we had to complete the designs in estimated time, I had to wear the Visual designers cap and I have also done the Visual designs shown below.
